Supplement The Run
More often than not I get caught up in running. I do love running. There is something about the constant challenge each run provides that keeps me coming back for more. In the big picture of fitness I do however understand that other activities can help supplement my running. Over the past month I decided to give some of those a try. Let’s see how it all went. I began this supplement the run quest … Read entire article »
Downward Facing Dog
I love being on vacation from work! It doesn’t matter that I have no major plans or exotic trip to take. Sometimes you just need a break from your work life. This morning I did something I haven’t done in months. Yoga. Not sure when or why I stopped but after today I’m committing to a least once a week. I did not realize how tight I’d become. This practice was not a pretty sight but … Read entire article »
Yoga & Pancakes
I find that running 3 days in a row is not the best for my body so this morning I woke up and knew it would be a yoga day. Exercise TV is a great way to add variety to your fitness routine. This morning I discovered Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown. (source) Today I started out with the Level 1 option which was a great 30 minute workout. Check out Exercise TV’s description: Level 1 workout focuses on quick flowing yoga sequences to burn mega calories. I apologize that they did not last long enough for a photo, but they were so fantastic. Today, I used a blend of … Read entire article »

Creative or Crazy?
It’s Friday!!!! Do you use NetFlix? I love it. Of course it is a convenient way to see movies, catch up on complete seasons of your favorite shows but most of all it allows you to try out new work outs. This week I received and tried out Shiva Rea’s Creative Core + Upper Body. Seriously??? This was a yoga practice that not only tones the core with some crazy crunches and dancing legs , but works the upper body by doing, I don’t know, hundreds of prostration push ups. For sure it was not an easy workout and I definetly felt the effects of the time spent working out but not sure this was for me. Needless to say I dropped it back in the mail and will not be investing in the DVD for consistent use. My Question To You – Do you … Read entire article »

Race Sunday
Whew, I made it after all. The Providence Half Marathon completed in exactly 2 hours at a 9:10 pace. No PR today but just happy to have finished despite the head cold. It was touch and go especially since I got maybe 2 hours sleep last night and not even consecutive hours. This morning when I finally gave up on sleep and started to get ready for the race I was just not sure I had enough energy to even attempt 13.1 miles. I decided to force down a bowl of Scottish Oatmeal with half a banana and took a Ginger root capsule for my nervousness. I knew Ginger was great for stomach distress but did not know the extent of its benefits. Ginger is well known as a remedy for travel sickness, nausea and indigestion … Read entire article »
