Since the time change I started feeling more like my old love the morning self.  The only bummer about this is that I’ve slowed the running down to just 3 days a week until my next race training begins.  With the lower mileage easy running I’ve been focusing on strength training 2 days and 1 yoga day to make up the calorie burn deficit.  To be honest, I am a little nervous that the number … Read entire article »

Nemesis Course

Nemesis Course

This Sunday I am running the New Bedford Half Marathon for the 4th time.  It’s a challenging course with a large hill between miles 2-3, wind issues and temperature drop around the beaches between miles 7-10 and then a very long steady climb right through the last few miles.  My course records are: 2007 – 2:05:56  2009 – 2:02:22 2010 – 2:01:52 Yes, each year I improved on the course but it is still my worst times when compared with … Read entire article »

Go Green! Go Irish!

Go Green! Go Irish!

I love St. Patrick’s Day.  On a simple level I love the color green, corned beef and cabbage, and lucky 4 leaf clovers.  On a deeper level I love the celebration of my Irish heritage.  But let’s  be honest most of the things we celebrate on St. Patrick’s day are more American commercialism than true Irish traditions.  But that’s OK, we can all have fun non the less.     I feel like I’ve been celebrating for a … Read entire article »

Gifts and Wishes

Gifts and Wishes

Well, I am another year older.  I’m fine with being older because I actually feel healthier now than I did 10 years ago.  The biggest thing that I contribute to this feeling is running.  Running just makes me feel younger.  It is my goal to continue running at some degree for as long as possible.  I really want to be those 70 year olds you see at your local races. My birthday did not start out all … Read entire article »

Life, a Show and a Race: Week In Review

Life, a Show and a Race: Week In Review

Each day provides us trials and gifts.  How we handle ourselves through these is a true measure of character.  Last week I mentioned my father-in-law was rushed to the hospital.  After days of tests and observation he went into surgery for a quadruple bypass.  He has gone through surgery and all though still in ICU, the doctors seem positive with the results.  We continue to pray for his recovery and strength.  As life moves along with family … Read entire article »

Life un-Balanced

Can it be Thursday already?    I’ve been struggling to keep a healthy life balance.  Work has taken a little twist which left me without the extra free time to work on my blogging.  Of course I should not complain about this because this twist is very positive to my work life.  Finding a little happiness in the place I have to spend eight hours a day even if the assignment is temporary is an added bonus.  In my fitness life I am registered for 6 races starting next weekend and I am starting to feel the pressure.  I’ve been running, but not with the intensity that I did during the second half of my training for my fall marathon last year.   This has the nerves and stress of race performance setting in.  And … Read entire article »
