A Pip & Myrrh Adventure: Newport Part 2

A Pip & Myrrh Adventure: Newport Part 2

Another run in Newport RI for the dynamic duo of Pip and Myrrh (that’s me) is completed.  Two sisters in Christ decide to take a fellowship run along Ocean Drive and Bellevue Avenue.  Our first run keep us more in the city and harbor, so we thought taking it to the most known streets of Newport would be a good change. We parked over at Brenton Point State Park which provided the perfect spot for post … Read entire article »

A Pip and Myrrh Adventure: Newport, RI

A Pip and Myrrh Adventure: Newport, RI

A co-worker, friend and sister in Christ had the idea last summer to run in Newport together.  It never happened.  Our schedules and the weather just never seemed to mesh.  This season we planned our day to Newport and then hoped for beautiful weather.  As the day approached the weather reports were not cooperating and we left it in the hands of our Creator.  And our prayers were answered!  Today Pip and Myrrh (that’s me) … Read entire article »

Marathoner High

Marathoner High

I was up before the crack of dawn.  4:30am to be exact.  It was Marathon Day today and I had a 45 minute drive to catch the shuttle bus from the parking area at the Newport Grand over to Easton Beach. Yesterday, I was a bit disappointed with the expo, but the race director was on game with the actual event.  Everything was well organized and it was just, easy.  From the shuttle, to desnigated athlete area, … Read entire article »

Weathering Moods

Weathering Moods

It is a beautiful sunny yet extremely windy Saturday.   My mood is taking its cues from the weather too.  I am staying positive (sunny) yet unpredictable (windy).  After Tuesday’s rib set back I rested and did not get back on the road until Friday evening.  I decided to take a test drive to see how the ribs would react with the lungs expanding out on a run.  2.5 miles later I was high-fiving The Hubby with high … Read entire article »

Newport Discovery

My last relaxing day off from work (boo hoo) started with a 5 mile run.  At first my little legs were a bit cranky as I was still trying to recover from the 13 miles yesterday without a rest day in between.  Today’s workout included 5 stride outs as well and these short bursts of quick leg turnover actually was exactly what I needed.  My breakfast choice was another Breakfast Scramble.  So Yummy. Now, as promised my discoveries of Newport.  I mentioned yesterday that our drives first priority was to scout out the marathon course and the allusive hills.  What I discovered was that I am actually familiar with the worst of the 2 hilly areas from running the Newport Pie Run for the past two Thanksgivings.  Whew, what a relief.  The course is so beautiful and one that … Read entire article »

Recalculating

I am not a big fan of Mondays, but as Mondays go this one was the tops. It started with a 13 mile run and if you read yesterday I am thrilled to say it was 100% pain free.  The only problem with the run was that I somehow stopped my Garmin and did not realize it for about 3 miles.  Recalculating.  On a positive not I was at the 5 mile turn around point that I used last weekend so I decided to change directions and completed the 13 miles in just under 2 hours.  Wahoo!  I am so thrilled with this training effort and my outlook for October’s race is still positive. Last night I decided to bring back a recalculated favorite old recipe.  I took the major ingredients from the original and … Read entire article »
