Weighing In

Meeting with a Health Coach each month not only provides valuable information from a trusted source, but keeps me on point for reaching my health goals.   Each month I weigh in and my BMI and Body Fat composition is reviewed.  He breaks the numbers into pounds of fat and lean body mass so we look at more concrete measurements to base my goal directions.  Honestly, I am a bit of a geek because I’m fascinated when the weight on the scale changes the ratio between fat and lean changes too shining a spotlight on potential issues.   But Thursday when I got on the scale and had gained 1.5 pounds I was confused and upset.  My first instinct was to throw up my hands and run away.  I’ve struggled with a positive self image ever since Jr. High School.  At that … Read entire article »

Quiet Sunday

Playing it safe is the theme of my day.   Due to the shin pain I experienced yesterday I decided to hold off on my 13 mile marathon training run for another day.  Over the past 10 years of running I’ve learned to listen to my body.  I’ve become good at deciphering the symptoms and feel there is no need to push it one day risking deeper injury just because it is on the schedule when you can easily move it after a rest day.  Daily Lesson Learned:  Sometimes being patient for one day will prevent weeks of sitting on the sidelines.   But it was odd not having a long run today.  The Hubby had to work and with mom away visiting my sisters it was just me and the pups in a quiet house today.  I decided to do a 20 … Read entire article »

What a gorgeous Saturday!  Hope you are having a fantastic weekend.  I drove into Providence this morning to pick up my bib for tomorrow’s race and explore the expo.  I guess you could call it an expo.  It was honestly not impressive at all and the booths had nothing to do with fitness.  Any hoo I am all set for tomorrow if my body holds together.  I am still fighting a bit of a cold but am not any worse than yesterday.  Hopefully, I will be well enough to wear my new Fila outfit.  If all goes well, I wanted to make sure I ate well today to run well tomorrow.  Breakfast was an egg white and Ezekiel 4:9 sprouted grain muffin sandwich and a green monster smoothie.
