Go Green! Go Irish!

Go Green! Go Irish!

I love St. Patrick’s Day.  On a simple level I love the color green, corned beef and cabbage, and lucky 4 leaf clovers.  On a deeper level I love the celebration of my Irish heritage.  But let’s  be honest most of the things we celebrate on St. Patrick’s day are more American commercialism than true Irish traditions.  But that’s OK, we can all have fun non the less.     I feel like I’ve been celebrating for a … Read entire article »

And The Health Coach Says

And The Health Coach Says

Another month means another check in with my Health Coach, Greg.  After our last meeting I recorded 8 days in an online food journal for him to review.  I’ve mentioned before that I do this every once and a while to reevaluate my nutritional highs and lows.   Even before I handed it over to him, I noticed a few things that I did not like.  One, too much cheese.  Do I really need to eat this … Read entire article »

Wonder Woman?

Happy 4th of July!  I hope you are all having a fantastic and safe weekend!  I am so thankful to our service men and women who continue to serve our country to defend our freedoms.  (source) It was a warm morning here in New England.  I think that I will have to be up and running a lot earlier on my weekend runs as training progresses to beat the heat.      Today’s distance was 9 miles, completed in 1:24 again at a quicker pace than the plan required.  It’s a topic I’ve been speaking about over the last few posts and then with the arrival of the newest Runner’s World issue my fears have been realized.  Recovery runs and paces should be honored to allow your body the adequate time to heal and prepare for the next … Read entire article »

eating well is running well

When I started this blog my purpose was to learn as much as I could about the link of eating clean and its effect on my running and then share those results with all of you. Today was a perfect example of eating well is running well.  But let me backtrack a bit to yesterday.  I started feeling a headache coming on by early afternoon and by last night it was more intense.  It was not as horrid as my last episode which was a blessing but still an annoyance.  I believe it was more of deyhdration from never replenishing properly after yesterday’s run in the extreme humidity that we were experiencing.  Any way, when I work up this morning the headache was still present so I decided that my scheduled 4 mile hill workout for day 2 of training was not prudent.  My #1 … Read entire article »

Perfect Day

It’s a warm one here today in New England.  My day started with a 6 mile run at a 9:13 pace.  At first the morning air felt dry with a nice breeze, so I decided that I would run without the fuel belt, but as the miles clicked by the air became more humid and I wished I had some water.  I guess the harder I work now the stronger I will become. Daily Lesson Learned:  Way too hot and unwise to not bring liquids on each run.      I replenished with a large Green Monster with the protein of  Vega Shake & Go Smoothie to beef it up.  Shake and Go Protein is quickly becoming a favorite. Because I try to follow a natural lifestyle when it comes to cleaning the house I like to use less harsh … Read entire article »

Bye bye rain clouds

Happy Hump Day!  The rain has finally stopped. There is so much flooding and I am so grateful that we made it through with just a little water in the basement. My heart goes out to those with more damage. I took those 2 days of heavy rains to rest up a bit and work my core with my favorite TV trainer, Cindy Whitmarsh.   This morning I put in a short 30 minute run with my first speed workout scheduled for Friday. Yikes, I am a little nervous about it. Breakfast: Oat bran and burglar wheat cereal with dates, chia seeds and flax seed meal. Surprisingly yummy and oh so filling. Of course, a Green Monster Smoothie to round the meal off.     My favorite mug, The Flying Pig Marathon 2009     Packing my cooler of … Read entire article »
