Still Chasing The Unicorn
Today I should be a Boston Marathoner. I had big dreams, but God had other plans. The day started out in bright colorful running gear but quickly turned to just a crumpled tattered bib. When I woke yesterday I had a few nerves, but by taking the bus up to Hopkinton with my running club it was a much easier wait than I anticipated. I felt great. No stomach issues and zero injuries. I felt strong and … Read entire article »

Repeat Week
At this point in my training I felt my only option was to repeat last week’s plan. And I couldn’t be happier even though I missed a 6 miler. It made me feel stronger and even more confident. Now that this week is over there is nothing more than I can do. I am as ready as I will be for Monday. My goals for the next 5 days are: Remain calm Stop looking at the weather … Read entire article »

Staying Positive
Ok, so the last few weeks of training have been difficult to say the least. Back Away From The Edge
It is hard to make changes to your body without a little discomfort and when you push it to far injury is the end result. Over the past 11+ years I’ve experienced a few injuries. There our times during training that aches and pains is just the norm. The key is learning when to stay calm and when to panic. Right now I just need to back away from the edge….the edge of fear. After my long runs last weekend, I basically felt fine. The only discomfort I felt was the skin under a runner’s callous that I have along my right toe. It was a bit tender Monday morning when I put dress shoes on for work. By mid day a full blown blister formed. EEK! I am happy … Read entire article »
Making Up
I don’t know how many times I’ve read or have been told that you should not try to make up missed mileage during training. My brain understands that in the scheme of the 400 plus miles I will put in during marathon training that missing a few miles will not upset the balance. But in true marathon madness form, I did in fact try to play catch up to the missed 3 miles from last … Read entire article »
