Five Minute Friday: Still

A while back I discovered (in)courage which is part of the DaySpring brand.  Even though I’ve used DaySpring products in the past it wasn’t until recently that I rediscovered their website and all the encouraging blogs attached to it.  Some of the regular bloggers at (in)courage take part in a series known as Five Minute Friday.  Here’s the scoop:                                                                                                        Five minutes to remember that we are creatures sculpted by The WORD  and made for The WORD and beloved by The WORD.  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. John 1:1-3. So on Fridays, we take the dare to … Read entire article »

Why I Love The Out and Back Route

The other day I was having a conversation with one of the sales reps that I work with who is also a runner.  Obviously the first subject of any conversation we have starts with, “how goes the running”?  He recently moved into a new territory and relocated his family into their new house.  I asked if it was a good running area and without hesitation he said no.  The only way to get any real distance will have to be an out and back route which he hates.  I actually love the out and back running route.  It was even a subject on my very first post back in February 2010, Going and Coming. Here are the top 3 reason why I love running the Out and Back Route: For me this method … Read entire article »

So Many Races: Upcoming Race Schedule

After my bad luck in May at the Memorial Day Marathon, I’ve decided not to run another full marathon this year.  Instead have opted to try some new races in some interesting locations with appealing distances.  Let’s take a look at where I will/may be: Half Marathon:  August 7th – Registered   7 Miler:  August 21 – Registered   18.64 miler – September 11 – Still deciding     10K:  September 18 – Registered     Half Marathon:  September 25 – Still deciding   Half Marathon:  October 9 – Registered   Half Marathon:  October 16 – Still deciding   Half Marathon:  October 23 – Still deciding   Half Marathon:  October 29 – Registered Sounds like fun, right?  I love to race.  Not so much for the speed or PR (well sometimes I am all about the PR) but for this list of races it is all for the experience.  I love … Read entire article »

Life’s Speed Bumps

During my recent staycation I ran 6 days straight totaling 30 miles.   It felt great having the ability and endurance to accomplish that and enjoy it in the process.  The goal was to take the 2 following days to rest and get back out on the road Friday.  My body had other unexpected plans.  Friday morning I awoke at 2 am with my throat screaming like a hot alarm.  Where did that come from?  I’ve spent the last 2 days in throat agony.  It feels like I have a burning speed bump stopping any comfortable eating,  drinking and just the natural swallowing process. Let the pity part begin, right?  Well that is me when I get sick.  Then you hear about tragic stories like a co-worker’s husband who is fighting cancer, … Read entire article »

Running The Word Race: Freedom

….the Word of God is alive and powerful…..   While running the closest thing to freedom you can receive is the runner’s high.  It is that moment of release or awakening that as a runner you may not experience with every run but keeps you logging miles.  For me it typically happens after I have pushed through a hard workout.  I’ve just about reached the limit of “that’s all I’ve got” and then it strikes.  Starting at the top of my head traveling straight through my body like electricity.  It is a renewing of the body.  A Peppermint Patty sensation.  It is the freeing of all my physical and mental toxins built up in the body creating a clean slate to start my day refreshed. Freedom always comes with a price.  Whether it … Read entire article »

Let’s Go Racing!

After taking a year off from running any of the short distance races in my local area I laced up my shoes and went out for 2 races. Fairhaven Road Race – June 19th When I crossed the finish line it was not a 10K PR, but it was a PR for this particular route.  In 2007 I completed it in 59:27 and in 2009 I completed it in 55:56 so taking another 2 minutes off my time on this course and only being a minute shy of my overall 10K PR made me extremely happy. Mattapoisett Road Race – July 4th    There is something about running a race on a holiday.  It creates an an extra special vibe or excitement.  Today was no exception.  Back in 2008 I completed this race in … Read entire article »
