A Moment

It has been 5 days since my last race and I am still riding the runner’s high.  Having run a half marathon both Sunday and then the following Saturday it was the first time I’ve ever attempted to run 2 long distance races in the same week.  I do love this feeling but I am so nervous for the crash and burn post race depression to hit.   Looking back over the last 5 weeks I’ve run the following races: Hyannis Half Marathon Black Cat 10 Miler Ras Na Heireann 5K St. Pat’s 5K New Bedford Half Marathon National Half Marathon My chiropractor was well informed of my crazy race endeavors and we kept my body finely tuned to prevent injury.  I am happy to say I was able to run each race pain free.  Thanks Dr. G! I have … Read entire article »

Postcards From D.C.

Postcards From D.C.

Besides running one of my favorite things is to travel.  I love exploring, sightseeing, photographing and taking in everything a city or area has to offer.  There is history to be learned, activities to be experienced and beauty to behold no matter if it is just 25 miles or 2,500 miles away from home.  Another aspect of travel that I enjoy is staying in hotels.  There is just something about a hotel stay that makes … Read entire article »

A Run Through History: A National Half Recap

A Run Through History: A National Half Recap

(Part 1 to my Washington, D.C. trip) This weekend I ran my final race of what I dubbed back in January as Race Madness.  Actually that list only included 5 races, but I threw an extra 5K in the mix making it 6 races in a short 5 week span.  The National half marathon was my “get-a-way” race and the 3rd half marathon during my Race Madness extravaganza.  Some thought it was crazy to run this many … Read entire article »

Caution: Sick Runner

Caution: Sick Runner

Ah, the immune system is a wondrous thing when working properly.  Stress, germs and abuse can cause chinks in our armor which lead to symptoms of fatigue, body ache, sinus head, sore throat and even fever.  That my friends is where I am at today.  Actually it started yesterday mid morning with a screaming hot sore throat and just declined from there.  I went to bed early, like back in grammar school early, praying that … Read entire article »

Call Me Overjoyed

Call Me Overjoyed

The other day I mentioned that I was running another half marathon this weekend and how it was my nemesis, but yesterday Evan pointed out that this race was actually my white whale.  As soon as he said it I was inspired.  Thank you Evan!  You see, the race was in New Bedford which has a history deep in the whaling industry.  Herman Melville’s Moby Dick even mentions my little city, “Ishmael arrives in New … Read entire article »

Race Day: St. Pat’s 5K Recap

Race Day: St. Pat’s 5K Recap

This morning I ran another 5K.  After running last week’s Ras na hEireann, I realized that even though I love distance running, I also find myself enjoying pushing hard for shorter distances too.  It takes a different mental toughness as you switch from conserving energy in longer runs to using everything your body has to give knowing it only 3 miles. When I left home it was beautiful and warm, however as soon as I stepped … Read entire article »
