eating well is running well

When I started this blog my purpose was to learn as much as I could about the link of eating clean and its effect on my running and then share those results with all of you. Today was a perfect example of eating well is running well.  But let me backtrack a bit to yesterday.  I started feeling a headache coming on by early afternoon and by last night it was more intense.  It was not as horrid as my last episode which was a blessing but still an annoyance.  I believe it was more of deyhdration from never replenishing properly after yesterday’s run in the extreme humidity that we were experiencing.  Any way, when I work up this morning the headache was still present so I decided that my scheduled 4 mile hill workout for day 2 of training was not prudent.  My #1 … Read entire article »

Training Again

Phase 2 of training began today with a 16 week training schedule as I move toward Marathon #4 with two half marathons sprinkled in for fun. I thought day 1 started out great.  I woke before my 4:40 am alarm which always makes me feel more alert than if I am torn out of a dream by the sound of the blasted alarm clockm but  it was a humid morning and I came back from this 4 miler looking much like a wet rat.    And not smelling like any of these beauties…..   During the run I felt a bit sluggish and wonder if it was just the heat or maybe a problem with my nutrition.  Through my meetings with my health coach I now understand that both caloric intake and protein percentage is very important to my running … Read entire article »

Dog days of summer

Breakfast of champions in my book?  I’ll give you a hint. Pancakes!  Of course they are made with my flour trinity of brown rice, coconut and spelt flours.  Completely clean and healthy with added flax seed meal,  chia seeds and blueberries on the side. Summer weather has officially arrived this week.  With the warm weather comes one dirty boy so yesterday was bath time for Schotzie.  Sorry Bud, but you are stinky and shedding way too much to ignore.  Don’t look at me that way. Again, sticking out your tongue at me?  So fresh! Splish Splash Schotzie in the bath. Who loves his mama now? All done and looking so cute.  … Read entire article »

Culinary Excellence

Culinary Excellence

Old world charm meets culinary excellence.  Last night’s dinner at  Cork Wine & Tapas Bar was almost beyond words.  I’ve always enjoyed the historic areas of our city and this building which stood abandoned for some time had been a favorite of mine.  About 3 years ago Cork owners took this building and turned it into a charming restaurant with superior food and service.  I am not sure why it took us so long to get … Read entire article »

Perfect Day

It’s a warm one here today in New England.  My day started with a 6 mile run at a 9:13 pace.  At first the morning air felt dry with a nice breeze, so I decided that I would run without the fuel belt, but as the miles clicked by the air became more humid and I wished I had some water.  I guess the harder I work now the stronger I will become. Daily Lesson Learned:  Way too hot and unwise to not bring liquids on each run.      I replenished with a large Green Monster with the protein of  Vega Shake & Go Smoothie to beef it up.  Shake and Go Protein is quickly becoming a favorite. Because I try to follow a natural lifestyle when it comes to cleaning the house I like to use less harsh … Read entire article »

Numbing Experience

Don’t you think after all of our country’s fine discoveries and technological advancements that there would be a better way to rid teeth of a dreaded cavity?  That’s right my friends today I had to visit the, dare I say the word, DENTIST.  In the past that was one of those forbidden words in my life.  I hate going to the dentist.  I know, does any one really enjoy it?  At best it is one of those things we all just tolerate, however up until a couple of months ago I did not even tolerate it.  I just chose not to go.   Before you get some nasty picture in your head of my grody teeth, I will have you know that I am very diligent at keeping the chompers sparkly clean.  … Read entire article »
