Marathon Weekend

It’s Marathon Weekend! I’ll miss you pups!   We hit the road early this morning and made the 4.5 hour trip north.  Beautiful mountains everywhere.  What a world God has given us through His creation. Despite the Garmin giving out we made it to the Sports Expo which I was thrilled to find very well organized and full of sports/health related booths.  After checking out the Expo and picking up my race packet and t-shirt, which I believe is the best looking race shirt I have gotten, we found a place for mom to eat lunch.  I being the eat clean nut brought food to eat today for both lunch and dinner plus snacks.  I did not want to do anything different before the big race.  So I ate my own food.  Lunch was chicken with … Read entire article »

Nervous Energy

Just one more day to go until the weekend!  Whew, what a week.  Over the last few weeks I’ve noticed a little tightness in my ITB and of course with the upcoming marathon this weekend I was a tad bit nervous.  It is hard enough running the 26.2 miles without starting it in pain.  So I utilized my company’s Wellness Center by going to Physical Therapy twice last week to help loosen the muscle with electric stem and ultra sound treatments coupled with massage and stretching.  This really got things loosened up then I went to my chiropractor on Tuesday.  He also is part of our Wellness Center and understands how important running is to me.  Even better than the convenience of his location here at work is that his treatments are always so … Read entire article »

Off subject: You-nique

Not to long ago on a long run left alone with my thoughts I was thinking about a devotional that I had read recently.  The world teaches us that we can do or be anything as long as we work hard at it or train for it.  I thought this way too, but is this really true?  What if your “dream” job, hobby or whatever your life choice is not what was intended for you?  Can you ever be truly successful or happy in that choice or possess the pure talent to perform the tasks required if it was not what you were designed to do or be?   I believe each of us has been created for a specific purpose.  That there was a divine plan set in motion for our lives, … Read entire article »

It’s A New Day

How is your Sunday going? My day started out with an early morning 10 mile run and I actually felt fantastic.  As you know I have been struggling the last couple of weeks which has really put a lot of questions and insecurities in my heart about next weeks marathon.  But today was a new day!  I felt strong and even had more left in the tank but wanted to honor the training schedule so I would be even stronger for next weekend. I took a quick look at Accuweather.com to see what the forecast is expected to be next weekend and was so relived the marathon was not being run today because it was suppose to be 81 degrees.     Way to hot for marathon day. 10 miles – 1:31:32 at 9:06 pace   Have you tried these … Read entire article »

Spring Cleaning

How was your Saturday? My day started with a practice from yogadownload.  Today was Yoga for buns. Then I spent most of  the day Spring cleaning.  There is nothing better than a top to bottom clean house.  It just gives me an oh so happy feeling.  I know, strange, right? Funny, how we schedule time to clean our houses but what about taking inventory of our bodies to clean up our health and fitness needs too?  I know I have some cobwebs and dust bunnies lurking around upsetting the balance of optimal health.  When is the last time you did a little spring cleaning on your health?    Noah and Schotzie wondering why there was so much fuss about a clean house.  Oh, but they are not complaining or they would be in the, dare I say it, dog … Read entire article »

Inspiration

How was your Hump Day?  There comes a point in every training schedule that you can decide to excel or give in.  I have officially reached that point.  I am just over a week out from race day and my confidence has waned.   I think last weekend’s long run has me questioning my ability to complete another 26.2 miles.  I’ve struggled since being sick and now this week my ITB has reared it’s ugly head. Of course, now is the time to gather strength and inspiration and not let fear take over.  Fear is such a lousy bed fellow, don’t you think?  He is a player and a thief.  Fear plays on our insecurities causing us to believe his lies and then steals moments from our lives by stopping us from achieving our goals.  Last night … Read entire article »
