Race Recap: United Healthcare Providence Half Marathon

Race Recap: United Healthcare Providence Half Marathon

In another last minute decision I thought I would head over to Providence and run not only my 3rd half marathon of 2012 but also my 3rd United Healthcare Providence half. My pre-race dinner consisted of a juicy hamburger with the best gluten free bun I’ve had the pleasure of eating.  Over the last few months I’ve gone mostly to a gluten free diet.  I do still on occasion opt for a non-gluten free choice, but … Read entire article »

H2O

H2O, aqua, bottled, filtered, spring, enhanced, smart, vitamin all synonymous with water these days.  Yesterday on my 9 mile run I preformed a bit of an experiment just for giggles. It is hard to believe that I use to go on up to 10 milers without any liquids.  What??? I just never really understood the importance of properly hydrating during a run and what a huge difference it had on performance.  Now even on a 4 mile run I bring along my Nathan Sprint fuel bottle typically filled with Vega Sports Optimizer.  On longer runs over 10 miles I bring a fuel belt with bottles of water to be used with Cliff Shots Bloks and others with Vega Sport.  Saturday I decided to go out with just water.  No Cliff Shot Bloks or Vega … Read entire article »

And Garmin Says….

Marathon Training Recap: 20 miles  3:15:05 9:45 pace I can’t be happier with the results of today’s run.  This is the first of three 20 mile scheduled training runs before race day so it is my belief this was a perfect start to the trinity.  I believe each will make me stronger and the stronger I get the better my time.  Marathon PR here I come!!! Do I feel like I ran 20 miles?  That would be a YES.  My hips are a bit sore but nothing a day of rest and stretching will not take care of I think.  The one weird result of today’s run is that my back right rib cage is extremely sore also.  My only two thoughts on why this would occur would be either my fuel belt or just wacky running posture.  … Read entire article »

Running on dreams

Happy Weekend!  This morning started a little off.  It all started when my alarm woke me from a strange dream.  A dream about the day before I was to run a marathon, but I got lost and could not remember the name of my hotel and the funny thing was that the name of the hotel was the name of a friend with me the whole time who is not a friend or for that fact even a real person but a character on a soap opera and one that I can not stand on the show!  (deep breath)   How bizarre!  I typically do not remember having dreams, but when I do they are long epic story lines.  Do you often remember your dreams? After dragging my groggy self out of bed I got ready for my 5 mile run.  With my new … Read entire article »

Running for Pancakes

Sundays are for family, church, relaxing and oh yeah, the long run.  When I started training for my 4th marathon 2 weeks ago I decided this time around to keep the long run on Sunday.  In the past I had always moved it to Saturday, but by leaving it on Sunday it gives me Saturday to prepare properly by eating and hydrating well.   Today was another 9 miler but compared to last week I felt I had more miles left in me. (1:24:56 – 9:26 pace)  This may have been because the humidity finally broke or maybe it could be my approach to hydration. If you are a regular reader you might be tired of hearing about hydration but if this is your first time, welcome.  Hydration is one of those things that I struggle with and have been … Read entire article »

eating well is running well

When I started this blog my purpose was to learn as much as I could about the link of eating clean and its effect on my running and then share those results with all of you. Today was a perfect example of eating well is running well.  But let me backtrack a bit to yesterday.  I started feeling a headache coming on by early afternoon and by last night it was more intense.  It was not as horrid as my last episode which was a blessing but still an annoyance.  I believe it was more of deyhdration from never replenishing properly after yesterday’s run in the extreme humidity that we were experiencing.  Any way, when I work up this morning the headache was still present so I decided that my scheduled 4 mile hill workout for day 2 of training was not prudent.  My #1 … Read entire article »
