Would You?
If someone told you to put an onion on your swollen ankle, would you?
Tuesday while at the chiropractor he mentioned that the “old school” way to reduce swelling is by placing an onion directly on the skin and wrapping it into place. Although I was a bit amazed by this tidbit of knowledge I had forgotten it until this morning. I thought, what the heck. I have nothing to lose….but maybe some swelling.
It’s day 6 of injury. Day 6 of not being able to run. Day 6 of swelling. To look quickly now, I say most of the swelling is gone, however I’ve been told by my chiropractor and physical therapist not to run until all the swelling is gone. Going out to soon will just cause more injury and more injury will eliminate any chance of me reaching the start line of the B.A.A Half Marathon next Sunday. Right now, they think I should make it, if I am smart and patient.
So, putting an onion on my ankle this morning was my attempt at drawing out the rest of the swelling. Aside from the strong odor, I noticed a cooling, tingling sensation with the treatment and later on today noticed a bruise develop as if the onion brought it to the surface. Strange? Positive? Hokey? I don’t have an answer to that, but I continue to keep the faith in my body’s healing ability.
From bum ankle to half marathon….look what came in the mail!!!!
