Let’s Go Racing!

After taking a year off from running any of the short distance races in my local area I laced up my shoes and went out for 2 races.

Fairhaven Road Race – June 19th

When I crossed the finish line it was not a 10K PR, but it was a PR for this particular route.  In 2007 I completed it in 59:27 and in 2009 I completed it in 55:56 so taking another 2 minutes off my time on this course and only being a minute shy of my overall 10K PR made me extremely happy.

There is something about running a race on a holiday.  It creates an an extra special vibe or excitement.  Today was no exception.  Back in 2008 I completed this race in 47:50 but the year earlier I crossed the finish line in 45:05.  With today’s 42:37 I not only set a new 5 mile PR, but I kicked my old times on this course to the curb!  Oh, how I love these days.  It was a warm morning, so I was not sure how it would all go, but I motored along in my new Asics Reprisals which turned out to be the perfect running partner.

Racing in the warmer months can be a challenge.  I just try to remember the most important rules of running in the heat:

  • Hydrate, but don’t over hydrate
  • Wear the right clothing and protection
  • Listen to your body!

As of this moment I only have one more race scheduled during the summer season.  If you are running the Rock n Roll Providence Half Marathon I will see you there!  Until then race safe.

running by faith,
Bekah
