A Cleansing Run
There are many reasons to run: Cardio health – Weight management – Stress management – Competition training – Recreational fun
And there are many types of runs: Easy – Tempo – Fartlek – Hill repeats – Recovery – Speed – Cleansing![]()
Of course when most of us go out for our daily workouts the reasons or types of runs can change in an instant or even can be combinations of a few on the list. Even though I woke earlier than my alarm, I did not want to get out of bed and actually ended up staying under the covers 15 minutes after the 4:15am alarm. I should have bounded right out of bed because it was a morning for a scheduled run. And I love to run but lately I’ve been struggling with my early morning workouts.
So, today I forced my feet onto the floor and threw on my clothes strategically laid out the night before and out the door I went. Once I hit the end of my street (about ¼ mile) I was alert and happy to be out on the road. When I rounded the corner of the park I had a choice, loop again to add on another 2 miles or head home. I decided to extend the run and loop again. Best decision of the day!
In the 2nd loop of the park I hit a faster stride partly to make up the extra time I stayed in bed and partly because I just felt amazing. I felt so relaxed and calm. By the end of the 6 miles I was flying high on endorphins and even acting a little silly. My pups did not know what to think of their mommy this morning. LOL!
I can’t even express to you how much I needed this run. It was such a mind and body cleansing experience with lasting all day effects.
I’m Listening: What is your favorite type of or reason to run?

Closing Thought: “It’s the one thing that’s mine. My runs everyday is my thing. It’s my therapy, my hour to myself.” – Summer Sanders, Olympic gold medalist

There’s nothing quite like the feeling after a great, cleansing run. I’ll never cease to be amazed by your 4:15 alarm. Wow!

These kind of runs are what I run for! There’s nothing like them and it’s amazing how much a run can impact your emotions. This sounds like the best way to start a day (though like Becky, I’m also constantly amazed by your 4:15 alarm)!

I can’t seem to get myself in the spirit of running like you. I commit myself to workout programs when it comes to daily runs, i just lose the motivation.

Sara, maybe running is just not your thing. Everyone has different passions and running happens to be my sport.
