Postcards From D.C.
Besides running one of my favorite things is to travel. I love exploring, sightseeing, photographing and taking in everything a city or area has to offer. There is history to be learned, activities to be experienced and beauty to behold no matter if it is just 25 miles or 2,500 miles away from home. Another aspect of travel that I enjoy is staying in hotels. There is just something about a hotel stay that makes me in a simple word, happy. So if I can combine my two loves into one trip it is a win-win.
After running the National half marathon, I spent the afternoon taking in the wonder of D.C. Camera in hand I set off toward the monuments. As much as I enjoyed every moment it was a lot of walking and I still had not gotten to the Capitol building. There was no way I could leave without a picture of the Capitol building as it had played such a pivotal role in my run. Outside the Lincoln Memorial I came across a Pedi-cab and asked for a ride. I have to admit I found this the coolest mode of transportation and worth every penny spent.
Along the way to the Capitol I grabbed some more shots:
After getting all the photos I wanted, I walked two blocks to catch the Metro back to my hotel. I stayed at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel.
While doing my initial research for this trip, booking a hotel was the hardest aspect. I ended up with L’Enfant Plaza Hotel for the ease of the Metro stop under the hotel and vicinity to start line of the race. I was a little concerned with the late check in of 4 PM, but was pleasantly surprised that when I when in to just drop my bag they allowed me to check in at 2:30!
It was a extra large room with a nice view of the pool. Keep in mind that it was in the 40’s for most of my time in D.C. but that did not stop people from enjoying the outdoor pool. Honestly I was shocked. I have just one word for those I saw, BRRRRRRR!
I enjoyed every moment of my trip. The city has so much to offer and definitely deserves a future vacation.

I can’t beleive the pool was open! Did you get to see the Cherry Blossoms? Did you see the snow on Sunday morning? D.C. is gorgeous this time of year, but it’s usually a bit warmer.

Sorry I am getting back to you so late, but yes I did get to see the start of the Cherry blossoms and they were gorgeous. It was hard to believe that it snowed a bit overnight but was happy that it did not last long Sunday morning. By the time I got to the airport the sky was clear and the sun was shining brightly.
