Getting Ready For Race 1 of 2011

Do you get excited before a race?  I do!

Tomorrow I run my first race of the 2011 season.  Cape Cod here I come.

I am really looking forward to running with a pack of runners, some friends and some strangers.  Either way it is all good.  Runners in general are friendly and welcoming group.   So much of my time running is spent training alone so it is such a pleasure to feel the power of the pack.  There is a collective energy that raises my spirit every time.

I’ve decided that will change my loner ways as I reach back out to my local running group for a week night evening run.  Big question is do I start this right away or wait until after all my races in March are over?  I try not to be that overly superstitious athlete, but whenever I think about changing my routine the fear of injury looms.  Does that happen to you?

If you are running Hyannis or another race this weekend I wish you much success and more than that I hope that you enjoy the moment!

On another note, yesterday we had a wicked storm that lasted all day with rain and wind causing a bit of damage.

While at work, I got the frantic call that a huge tree limb had fallen from our neighbor’s tree crashing through our fence.  Yikes!  Thank goodness the tree was just shy of hitting our deck, however one of my planters on the deck ledge did not survive.  Over all we were extremely blessed that the tree did not hit the house.  Whew, that was a close one.

I’m Listening:  What superstitions are you prone to?
