Weathering Moods

It is a beautiful sunny yet extremely windy Saturday.   My mood is taking its cues from the weather too.

I am staying positive (sunny) yet unpredictable (windy).  After Tuesday’s rib set back I rested and did not get back on the road until Friday evening.  I decided to take a test drive to see how the ribs would react with the lungs expanding out on a run.  2.5 miles later I was high-fiving The Hubby with high hopes that it would indeed be Marathon Sunday after all.  This morning I went out again for a 3 miler which was a scheduled run trying to keep the legs loose and ready for 26.2 miles.  The rib seems to be doing well, the muscles are a bit tight but running is comfortable enough.  My only other concern is the arch in my left foot is acting up again.  It seems my ART treatment on Monday did not fix everything so between the rib/muscle and the foot my marathon effort will be for sure unpredictable.

I went out to Newport this morning to pick up my bib.

Due to a Garmin glitch I ended up going over the Jamestown Bridge in error.  Let me first say how much I hatethis bridge.  It is tall and scary on a calm day but add high gusting wind and you get one anxious Bekah !  Can you believe it costs $4 to go over this bridge?  That is just highway robbery.  My Garmin error cost me $8 today!

The Expo was at the Hyatt which is right on the water and the wind was strong here than at home.  I do hope the wind does quiet down over night.  If not it will beat us up tomorrow on the course.

The Expo was in one word, WEAK.  Not much going on here very similar to the Cox Marathon in May.  I was a bit disappointed.

In preparation for tomorrow, here are my Marathon Essentials:

  • Asics Gel 3020′s
  • Fuel Belt
  • Cliff Bloks
  • Comfy tech shirt/pant
  • Injini socks
  • Aquaphor
  • Garmin Forerunner
  • Bib

For me the preparation is done.  I’ve trained, I’ve ate well and now it is time to run well.
