Do you remember that Sesame Street song, “Three Of These Things Belong Together”?
Three of these things belong together
Three of these things are kind of the same
Can you guess which one of these doesn’t belong here?
Now it’s time to play our game (time to play our game).
I think that my day could be summed up with this old children’s game.
This glorious Saturday started with a very S-L-O-W 6 mile run. OK, so I understand that my marathon scheduled called for a easy recovery run at a pace of 9:58, but usually I have to really slow myself down to comply. This morning however I could hardly keep up. What does this mean?
- Is my body just feeling the effects of training?
- Was my growling stomach and lack of sleep a factor?
- Am I just getting old?
So today I had to embrace my turtleness.
Actually, just be the turtle was my motto for quite a while. I discovered that I would never be that quick little rabbit that I wanted to be, and that was OK because I found that I was comfortable with endurance running. Getting the distance done was more important than how fast.
Breakfast was a Banana Scramble and Protein Cherry Juice smoothie. Tart Cherries are said to aid in recovery and reduce muscle damage, inflammation and oxidative stress. Here is more.
A growing body of research suggests cherries could reduce inflammation related to heart disease, arthritis and may even help maintain muscle strength for those suffering from fibromyalgia a common and chronic widespread pain disorder. In the study, sixty healthy adults aged between 18 and 50 years who drank 10.5 ounces cherry juice twice daily in the week before the long-distance race had far less muscle pain than those who consumed another juice. On a scale from 0 to 10, they had a two point lower self-reported pain level at the completion of the run – a clinically significant difference.
I found the recipe over at With A Side Of Sneakers. To make it part of my clean eating lifestyle I only had to change the all purpose flour to brown rice flour and the sugar to sucanat. I am thinking that the brown rice flour may have made my muffins a bit more dense, but they were still extremely yummy.
They are great paired with some fresh fruit and Greek yogurt.
Pumpkin Pie Banana Chunk Oatmeal Cookies
The name may be a mouthful but so is the cookie! I found this one over at Oh She Glows and did not have to alter a thing to keep it clean.
After all the baking it was time for lunch. A little tuna roll, raw veggies and of course one of those wonderful cookies was on the menu.
